Yes...it is very unfortunate and depressing. I dunno why people behave like this. I know it's not really great for South Indians when they go to parts of North India, but I've neve rheard of anyone being ill-treated.

my bangalore

When we decided to throw the British out, they were the "outsiders". When we fought against China, and against Pakistan in Kargil (and several times before that), they were the "outsiders". Quite disturbing then to see that now the term "outsiders" is applied to people who don't belong to a particular state. Especially by someone like Vasudha whose previous blog spoke of how the tricolor is fading and how the young generation does not understand the meaning of a nation and independence.

Do you understand it, Vasudha?

My anger is not at you compaining against people who criticise the city without doing anything to improve the situation. I am disturbed by you calling non-Bangaloreans outsiders. Not only are you being over-critical, but you are also unaware of the economic growth that Bangalore has seen since the "outsiders" came here.

Do you go to the Forum Mall? Or Garuda Mall?Or any other mall? Do you know that the reason these malls opened up in Bangalore was because the "outsiders" came from cities that had such malls and demanded it here as well. Have you seen atleast one movie at PVR Cinemas? The owner of the PVR group is from Delhi, and that's where the chain got carried on from. He is an outsider too, then, technically. Should you then enjoy a movie there and then criticise outsiders? Do you eat at Pizza Hutor McDonald's?They are foreign chains too.And they definitely add to the "destruction and pollution" of the city. Just because the people employed behind the counters are from bangalore - and you can't be too sure of that - does that make them "insiders"? Shouldn't you quit all food and entertainment that is not local to Bangalore?

The city govt had started a sight-seeing bus to promote Bangalore. Did you take a tour on it? Did you encourage people to know your Bangalore better by taking that bus? If you did, excellent. But if you didn't , then you should know that the bus service was closed down for lack of passengers.

As a human you should be aware that people always crib. They will eat spicy food and then crib about it when they get a stomach ache. They will curse Ekta Kapoor but still watch her serials. Cribbing is as basic to human nature as is eating and shitting.

So stop taking things personally. We outsiders crib about our home as much as we do about Bangalore. I am from Delhi and there are things I love about Delhi and things I absolutely hate. Each place has its own positive and negative points. And since we are away from home, we tend to remember the good points more than the bad points. If you have ever been away from home and stayed in another city/country for a long time, you will know how it feels. Bangalore is a lovely city, and so are all the cities in this country. And don't tell me that when the rain-clogged drains flooded the roads and made it tough to get around, you didn't feel bad ever for a second.

Your devotion to your city is great, but try to enlarge your vision to include the whole country. Terrorism comes in many forms. And slicing the country into "my city your city" is as bad as the bombings in Mumbai or the slaughter in Kashmir.

Rendezvous at Sunrise - my first romance

Nice travelogue. Is Vizag worth a short family vacation? And how much time does it take from Bangalore? If it's a nice place, I would like to take my baby there. He loved the water!
